A new history of Australia's internal security organisation ASIO (Australian Security Intelligence Organisation) has revealed that the organisation's head in the 1950s, Charles Spry, fed political advice to the prime minister Robert Menzies during the 1951 referendum on whether to ban the Communist Party."
